Of course this includes durability or resistance to wear. In addition, we also find waterproofness and breathability very important.
What does a water column say about your snowboard clothing?
An important property of a good snowboard outfit is that it must be waterproof. In the descriptions and additional information of a garment the water column is shown in mm. But what does that mean? In short: the higher the number, the more waterproof the snowboard pants or jacket is. Between 0 – 1,000 mm the fabric is water-repellent and at, for example, 15,000 – 30,000 the fabric is completely waterproof.
What does breathability say about your snowboard clothing?
Besides being waterproof, it is also very important that your snowboard outfit breathes well. If you are intensively snowboarding you will sweat. That sweat obviously needs to be wicked away so you stay dry on the inside. You can explain it simply. The fabric contains tiny holes that are large enough to let the vapor through, but small enough to keep moisture out. We indicate the breathability for example as 5,000 g. This means that 5,000 g of water vapor can pass per m2 in 24 hours. So the higher the number the better your snowboard pants or jacket breathes.
