Snowboard stomp pads

Stomp pads: Essential for grip and control on your snowboard

A stomp pad is an essential accessory for snowboarders who want extra grip and control when only one foot is strapped to the board. This commonly happens when getting off the chairlift or when navigating flat sections. By placing a stomp pad between your bindings, you prevent your foot from slipping on the smooth surface of your snowboard.

What is a stomp pad?

A stomp pad is an anti-slip pad that is attached to the deck of your snowboard, usually between the bindings or just behind the front binding. It provides a rough or textured surface for your back foot to grip when it is not strapped in. This is especially useful when getting off the chairlift or when 'skating' over flat sections.

Why use a stomp pad?

1. Safety when getting off the chairlift

When getting off the chairlift you often have only one foot strapped into your snowboard. A stomp pad ensures that your free foot does not slip, allowing you to dismount safely and in control.

2. Better control on flat terrain

On flat sections or when waiting for friends it’s useful to move with one foot free. A stomp pad provides the necessary grip to steer and control your snowboard without your foot slipping.

3. Removing snow from under your boot

Snow can accumulate under your snowboard boots, making it difficult to fasten your bindings properly. A stomp pad can help remove this snow before you strap your foot in.

Types of stomp pads

There are several types of stomp pads available, each with their own characteristics:

Rubber stomp pads

Flexible and durable, rubber stomp pads offer good grip and are resistant to cold temperatures. They are ideal for snowboarders looking for comfort and functionality.

Foam stomp pads

Lightweight and often cheaper, foam stomp pads provide sufficient grip for beginners and recreational snowboarders. They are easy to apply and replace.

Metal studs

For maximum grip, especially on icy surfaces, metal studs are an excellent choice. They provide a solid hold, but can be less comfortable for your boots

Transparent stomp pads

If you don’t want to cover the design of your snowboard, transparent stomp pads are a good option. They provide the necessary grip without detracting from the look of your board.

Tips for applying a stomp pad

  1. Clean the surface: Make sure the surface of your snowboard is clean and dry before applying the stomp pad.
  2. Placement: Attach the stomp pad just behind the front binding, where your back foot will stand when it is not strapped in.
  3. Press firmly: Press the stomp pad down firmly and let it set for at least 24 hours before using the snowboard.
