Breathable, waterproof garments are at the highest risk of becoming sweaty and wet on the inside when used under humid or wet conditions. If the outer fabric absorbs water, the garment can lose up to 70% of its breathable properties. Therefore, you need to maintain the durable water repellency (DWR) on the outer fabric of your jacket to keep the comfort. This will eventually wear out and needs to be renewed with Nikwax TX.Direct®.
When we work hard, we sweat a lot. The evaporation of sweat cools our body and gives us a comfortable feeling. But when it rains, we want to prevent getting wet and wear waterproof outerwear to stay dry. These waterproof fabrics must allow water vapor to escape or 'breathe'; otherwise, our sweat cannot evaporate, we become overheated, and we get wet from condensation. Additionally, if the outer fabric of your garment absorbs water and becomes saturated, its breathable properties will be affected, causing you to feel clammy and wet. Nikwax TX.Direct® adds durable water repellency (DWR), which prevents water absorption and maintains breathable properties. You stay dry and feel comfortable.
Your rainwear can absorb water just because it is dirty. Try cleaning it first with Nikwax Tech Wash®. If it's fairly new or has recently been re-waterproofed, the durable water repellency (DWR) will already be restored with a wash. But when the garment has been worn a lot, you will need to add DWR with Nikwax TX.Direct® after first cleaning it with Nikwax Tech Wash®.
Nikwax TX.Direct® Wash-In is the market leader. It is easy and quick to use in the washing machine, and the strong durable water repellency (DWR) develops during drying in the open air. Using the washing machine ensures that the treatment goes right through the garment, reaching not just the fabric but also seams and cords. Additionally, it is not necessary to use the tumble dryer, which saves energy and protects older, more delicate garments from heat. Nikwax TX.Direct® Wash-In is specially designed and optimized for breathable, waterproof garments. It leaves a flexible, water-repellent layer on the individual fibers, allowing water vapor to pass through and preserving the breathable properties.
Instructions for machine use:
For the best results, remove all non-washable parts and first clean the garment with Nikwax Tech Wash®. It is not necessary to dry the clothing before impregnation.
- Remove all soap residues from the detergent drawer.
- Put a maximum of 2 garments in the washing machine.
- Use 100ml per garment.
- Run a synthetic wash program at 30° and spin at low speed.
- Do not wash garments with loose taped seams in the machine.*
- To avoid losing the water-repellent properties, always wash with Nikwax Tech Wash®. Do not use traditional detergent.
* With older or worn clothing, the tape on the seams may get damaged and come loose. This can be remedied by applying a specially designated clear adhesive after impregnation and drying.
Instructions for manual use:
