Synthetic base layers are designed to be worn against the skin. They provide the wearer with comfort by keeping their body temperature constant and regulating moisture. The fabrics used in base layers have strong capillary action (they spread moisture over a large area), dry quickly, and are breathable. Therefore, it is essential to maintain these properties when caring for base layers.
Synthetic base layers are excellent for regulating your temperature and managing body moisture, but over time, bacteria and body oils can be absorbed into the fabric, leading to unpleasant odors. To maintain the good functions of synthetic base layers, they must be washed with care. Using regular household detergents or fabric softeners can affect the capillary properties, causing the fabric to retain moisture. This results in reduced capillary action and slower drying of the fabric. Additionally, odors are not sufficiently removed. Instead, they are masked by fragrances that quickly become ineffective, leaving you with smelly base layers!
If your base layer has been used a few times and starts to smell, wash it with Nikwax BaseWash® to eliminate odors, refresh it, soften it, and improve its drying and cooling properties. Always apply this product to used base layers, socks, sports gear, and travel clothing to keep them in perfect condition.
Instructions for machine use:
Apply Base Wash® undiluted to stubborn stains before washing. Remove all non-washable parts. Shake well before use. Refer to the washing instructions. Do not use fabric softener. Do not use on waterproof clothing.
- Place the item(s) in the washing machine.
- Use 1 full cap* (50ml).
- Wash according to the washing instructions.
Instructions for manual use:
Apply Base Wash® undiluted to stubborn stains before washing. Remove all non-washable parts. Shake well before use. Refer to the washing instructions. Do not use fabric softener. Do not use on waterproof clothing.
- Submerge the item(s) in a bucket of lukewarm water.
- Use ½ cap* (25ml).
- Rinse 3 times in clean water.
