Faster and longer sliding with a well-waxed snowboard

Of course, we all want to be the first one down the mountain or at least to zoom down faster than our friends. How annoying is it to have to step or even walk when your snowboard no longer glides on a flat section? We've all experienced that. Often, we hear the question; Why does one board glide faster than another? Besides the type of base of your snowboard, a well-waxed snowboard plays a significant role.
The Structure of Your Base
When you glide down the mountain on your board, friction creates a thin layer of water between the snow and your snowboard. This thin layer of water needs to be channeled away by the structure in your base. Think of it like a tire. A tire also has a tread to channel water away. If there's no more profile in your base, a vacuum is created. You then experience a braking feeling or may even come to a stop on less steep sections. If there's no structure left in your base, a new structure needs to be applied. Don't worry. We'll take care of that!
Waxing Your Snowboard
A well-waxed snowboard can channel water faster and also ensures that the water doesn't quickly refreeze or even stick to your base. But what's the best way to wax your snowboard? The very best method is to use hot wax. This wax is applied with an iron. The wax melts and penetrates deep into the pores of your base. The wax goes not on your base but into your base. Multiple layers should be applied for the best result
When you have your snowboard waxed mechanically, you'll notice that after about 3 days the bottom of your board turns white. This means that your board is dried out and the wax is gone. This creates a lot of glide resistance, reducing or even eliminating the structure of your base. The result, you lose speed.
